TL;DR: Google Cloud introduced a Gemini agent that can use business context, tools and models to perform multi-step tasks across work systems.
Businesses do not work inside one prompt window. Tasks cross documents, inboxes, databases and software managed by different teams. At its October 8 Gemini at Work event, Google Cloud announced an enterprise Gemini agent intended to coordinate that activity from a common interface.
Google says the system can use an organisation’s business context, plan tasks, select tools and models and deliver results in the applications where the work already happens. It also emphasises cost management, security and administrative controls. Those details matter because a workplace agent operating across systems can have access to information far more sensitive than the text of an ordinary chatbot conversation.
There is an important distinction between demonstrating a tool-connected assistant and safely deploying it throughout a company. Organisations must decide which information sources the agent can reach, which actions require human approval and how to review what happened when it makes a mistake.
The announcement fits an emerging pattern in enterprise AI: vendors are competing to finish workflows rather than merely provide useful answers. Whether that produces dependable productivity gains will depend on integrations and governance as much as the underlying language model’s performance.
